02/27/12

I started off last week getting some more touch-up ink from Eddie at Sacred Apple. We've been working on the sleeve on my left arm for almost two years now! Luckily, it's almost done...

On Tuesday, my buddy Brian (from The Mound Builders) and I made the trip to Chicago to check out the In Flames show. This being my third time seeing them; I can definitely say that those dudes never disappoint. Their new CD is pretty sick too. I'm not into 'metal' as much as when I was younger, but their hooks can not be denied. I was pleasantly surprised to see Trivium get back to what I initially liked about them; more like Ascendancy, less of a Metallica/Machine Head copy cat.

Speaking of The Mound Builders, they were included in Heavy Planet's March Bandness Tournament (starting on Wednesday, February 29th) to be crowned the best Stoner Rock band. Think we can all send some votes their way on Wednesday?

Back on track...

Tuesday's tickle in my nose/throat had grown to full-blown sickness by the time our set for Lafayette Live rolled around on Wednesday; setting the pace for the rest of the week. Drew and I were there to plug our shows for the weekend and we soldiered on.

Here's the set:

"Settling"
"Pocket and Soul"
"Out of Our Hands"
"Dear Reason"

By the way, it was good to see Hillary Tribbett back in action on Wednesday. She's such an awesome writer and performer. It's a good idea to check her out before she skips town. No, really, she's setting up shop in LA in the near future...

Sending thanks messages to radio stations, guitar lessons, and IND practice on Thursday and Friday provided a nice change-of-pace from the coughing and nose-blowing and helped usher in Saturday for the week's main event at Aces Pub.

The Journal and Courier did a nice write-up and 93.5 was blasting ads to promote the show. Our buddies in Born Under Burden kicked off the night of mean rock and my crew kept it rolling.

Here's the set:

"Settling"
"Guilt that Keeps on Giving"
"Dear Reason"
"Feed Me a Lie"
"The Shadow I Will Leave"
"Boys of Summer" - Don Henley/Atari's cover
"Pocket and Soul"
"My Rx"
"Out of Our Hands"
"Point #1" - Chevelle cover
"Something Else is Something More" - Adrenaline cover
"Stuck" - Adrenaline cover
"Amputee" - Oceansize cover
"Before it Gets to Me"
"No Second Chance" - Adrenaline cover
"Heartkiller" - H.I.M. cover

It was a great night and great crowd. Set-wise, it's been a lot of fun rehashing some of the old Adrenaline tunes to mix up the set. They've been holding up really well with the new stuff. Honestly, I don't think the crowd noticed they were hearing some 10+ year old originals from some Clinton County teens.

If you missed it, we'll be hooking up with the Born Under Burden crew for some more shows in the future. Our history makes for some fiery performances and below-the-belt jokes. Don't miss 'em!

I wrapped up the week back at Aces last night running open mic. At one point we had about eight people on stage jamming hot fire. It was nuts! Thanks to Dan-O, Brady, Jay, Dennis, Tommy, Jim, Kimmie, and CP for throwing down.

That does it for the update.

Don't forget that I'll be unplugged at Java Roaster on Friday and weapons hot at La Parranda on Saturday. I hope to see you out!!

Whoa, we're already to the point where I type that you should follow @ChrisJuneIND on Twitter and 'Like' us on Facebook... :-)

Thanks for stopping by.

02/20/12

After getting last week's blog in late, I figured I'd better post this week's before everything gets crazy!

I'm still feeling a little beat up from last night's show. The crew played a private 'going-away' shindig for a fellow Lafayette resident that's leaving to join the Army this week (Best of luck, THAD!). Friend of the band and extremely talented, Evan Ryan, joined us for the night in jamming some tunes. I'd post the set, but we played everything we could pull off (which is a lot more than I've posted in previous sets).

SIDE NOTE: you can catch our anything and everything set at Aces Pub on Saturday, February 25th with Born Under Burden (INFO & RSVP HERE). The ads on 93.5 WKHY should be on air now.

It was an honor to help send Thad off. Plus, there are a few more IND shirts and CDs that you'll be seeing/hearing around town.

For fun, here's a video clip from the night. The show was in a gym. So, despite a complete lack of skills and ups, we decided to 'ball':

Some of you are probably aware that a few of my previous writing efforts have been licensed to shows on E!, MTV, and NFL Network in the past. Well, I'm keeping it rolling.

I received contracts from some shows/networks requesting my music last week, so be on the look out for tracks from Whistle When We Break Down on Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, Science Channel, Planet Green, TLC, Military Channel, Discovery HD Theater, Discovery Health Channel, OWN, The Hub, 3Net, Fox, FSN, Speed TV, Big 10 Network, NFL Network, NFL Films, Versus, CSN, G4, NASCAR, ESPN, all US Sports stadiums and arenas, The Real World, Road Rules, Extreme Challenge, Fantasy Factory, Ridiculousness, Nitro Circus, Parental Control, Saddle Ranch, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Khloe and Lamar, Bad Girls Club, Love Games, Best Ink, Koping, and the new Clint Eastwood family project.

The radio push for Whistle When We Break Down is heating up too. I let loose a list of stations spinning my tunes a couple of entries ago. After finishing an email blast thanking them, I received another report. So, now there's more!

Bear Cast Radio (Cincinnati, OH), CHMR (St. Johns, Newfoundland), CJSR (Edmonton, Alberta), KDUP (Portland, OR), KKSM (San Marcos, CA), KMUD (Redway, CA), KNSU (Thibodaux, LA), KSLU-2 (Hammond, LA), KSTO (Northfield, MN), KSYM (San Antonio, TX), KUIW (San Antonio, TX), KVRX (Austin, TX), KXUL (Monroe, LA), KXZY (Stillwater, OK), Radio Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ), Radio UTD (Richardson, TX), SCAD Radio (Atlanta, GA), WAIH (Potdam, NY), WBIM (Bridgewater, MA), WBSR (Providence, RI), WBWC (Berea, OH), WCCX (Waukesha, WI), WCHC (Worcester, MA), WCVM (Morrisville, NY), WCWM (Williamsburg, VA), WECI (Richmond, IN), WFCF (St. Augustine, FL), WGDR/WG (Plainfield, VT), WGSU (Geneseo, NY), WGTB (Washington DC), WHUS (Storrs, CT), WIDB (Carbondale, IL), WIDR (Kalamazoo, MI), WITR (Rochester, NY), WIXQ (Millersville, PA), WLUR (Lexington, VA), WMCN (St. Paul, MN), WMCO (New Concord, OH), WMHD (Terre Haute, IN), WMHW (Mt. Pleasant, MI), WMTU (Houghton, MI), WMUR (Milwaukee, WI), WMVL (Purchase, NY), WMXM (Lake Forest, IL), WORT (Madison, WI), WPMD (Norwalk, CA), WQAQ (Hamden, CT), WRBC (Lewiston, ME), WRFW (River Falls, WI), WRHU (Hempstead, NY), WRNC (Ashland, WI), WRRC (Lawrenceville, NJ), WRTC (Hartford, CT), WRUV (Burlington, VT), WSBU (St. Bonaventure, NY), WSWI (Evansville, IN), WUDR (Dayton, OH), WUMM (Machias, ME), WUOG (Athens, GA), WUPX (Marquette, MI), WVAU (Washington DC), WVKR (Poughkeepsie, NY), WVMW (Scanton, PA), WVUD (Newark, DE), WYBF (Radnor, PA), and WZBT (Gettysburg, PA).

Quite a few stations have the disc in heavy rotation and/or charting in their top ten. In the case of WPPJ in Pittsburgh, I fulfilled a request from them on Saturday to record and submit a station ID/plug for them use as a transition into my songs. "Hey! This is Chris June IND and you're listening to..."

It was a lot of fun to do!

That does it for this week's blog.

I'm off to get some touch-up ink done with my main-man Eddie at Sacred Apple in a bit. If you're making the trip to Chicago to catch In Flames on Tuesday night, my buddy Brian (from The Mound Builders) and myself will be there throwing horns. Also, the IND crew will be doing an acoustic set Wednesday night for Lafayette Live at the Lafayette Theater at 10pm to plug Saturday's Show.

Also, if you notice that you're a regular on the blog, consider following @ChrisJuneIND on Twitter and 'Liking' Chris June IND on Facebook.

Thanks for stopping by!

02/13/12

As the song goes, better later than not at all, right?

Speaking of “Guilt that Keeps on Giving,” we started compiling footage from all the shows this week in an attempt to do a follow up video to “Out of Our Hands.” Hopefully it works out.

Happy Valentine’s Day, if you’re celebrating! Apologies for dropping the ball on blog day yesterday, it’s been a crazy week in IND land.

Last week began with me tracking down contact info for station managers and deejays at the stations playing my tunes. I don’t think I could’ve pulled it off without the help of my little bro and Google. It was a solid two days of work.

If any of you dudes are checking out the blog and haven’t received a ‘thanks’ in your inbox. It’s coming…

Wednesday’s set at Lafayette Live was the first time I’ve been down to the theater with my Tele and Rhodes amp in over a year. Since more than enough time had passed, Chris and Drew joined me to crank it up.

Here’s the set:

“Settling”
“Guilt that Keeps on Giving”
“Dear Reason”
“Feed Me a Lie”

I’m glad we got to rock it up for the regulars!

Like last week, I made the trip over to Frankfort to play some unplugged tunes on Thursday night at Applebee’s Open Mic.

Here’s the set:

“Settling”
“Pocket and Soul”
“Amputee” – Oceansize cover
“My Rx”
“Before it Gets to Me”
“Out of Our Hands”

As always, Jason Wells was a great host. I really dig his new track, “Hot Head Helen” a lot! Ryan (if I’m remembering his name right), a ten year old, took top honors for the night for rocking an SG and for singing and playing very well. Great job, little man!

I planned to take Friday night off to roll to Illinois for the SOiL show. My good buddy Justin, who’s a chum of Ryan McCombs (SOiL/Drowning Pool singer), had the hook-up, but the weather in Indiana had other plans. Instead of braving crappy road conditions, I took the opportunity to jam some very nice guitars from Justin’s Gibson arsenal.

The ES137, one of my favorites, made the trip to the Animal House with me the following night for our show with The Enders and The Mound Builders. The dudes in those bands are ripping guitarists that play Gibsons. Maybe I wanted to fit in…

I planned to jam the ES137 for the whole show, but I knocked the low E off the saddle during the first song; throwing the tuning out. So, I decided keep it in the case for the remainder.

Here’s the set:

“Settling”
“Guilt that Keeps on Giving”
“Dear Reason”
“Feed Me a Lie”
“Go Into the Water” Intro – Dethklok cover
“The Shadow I Will Leave”
“Boy of Summer” – Don Henley cover
“Pocket and Soul”
“Point #1” – Chevelle cover
“Out of Our Hands”

We ended the ‘night’ with breakfast and laughs at IHOP with the other bands (WHAT A RIOT!). I’m anxious to get on a bill again with those dudes. Big thanks to Big "C" Sound for putting on an awesome show! We’ll be back over there on April 7th.

I planned on using Sunday to wind-down and get this blog entry started. Instead, I ran an open mic at Aces Pub…

Usually, they have those shindigs on Wednesday nights. So, I called to see if I could jump in to play the next two weeks (to plug our next show down there). Finding out about the move to Sundays and that they didn’t have a host, I loaded some PA, posted the details on Twitter/Facebook, made some calls, and headed over.

If you missed it, my buddies Drew, Evan, and Mojo stopped in to cut loose and it was cool meeting and seeing Jim, Marty, and Tommy (some Aces regulars) do their thing. It’s a loose plan for me to host an open mic there every 3 or 4 weeks now; allowing me to give everyone some warning in advance. It’ll be on the calendar when I get the date(s) ironed out.

Until then, you can catch the full IND crew at Aces on Saturday, February 25th with the dudes from Born Under Burden (INFO & RSVP HERE). The radio ads start on WKHY on the 18th. Let me know if you hear my tunes on 93.5!

Finally, I’ve got licensing contracts headed my way from some big television networks/shows. Hopefully, I’ll have more info on that next week.

Huge thanks to everyone that made it out to any of the four shows last week and to you for stopping by the blog once again!

I’ll catch you next week.

It's looking like the blog's gonna break 1500 views this week. I'm glad you keep coming back!

The Taste crew started getting heavier on the business end last week. Personally, I tagged along to some meetings, chatted with most of our band roster, & added more content to the Taste site. Everything's coming along nicely!

For a little extra incite, the Taste committees only take about a month (if that) off each year from all things Taste. Bringing together the bands, restaurants, sponsors, etc. takes a lot of time and effort, but seeing 40,000 people downtown and having a ball for the benefit of The Tippecanoe Arts Federation is super rewarding!

Save the date: Saturday, June 16, 2012. Downtown Lafayette is going to be electric.

Production-wise, we wrapped up guitar tracking on the new Arch Drive Goodbye CD last week and I got all of those tracks edited & bounced down. Getting the guys to put down their acoustic guitars and beef-up with my signature Dishaster 4790 amp from Rhodes Amplification is newer territory for them. The songs are pretty rockin'! Now, we're sorting through some vocal parts.

My good buddy Johnny Bhive stopped by IND HQ last week too. I always enjoy being able to sit down and talk shop with other musicians, especially those of Bhive's caliber. Hopefully our schedules will line up for a future collaboration!

Shows, shows, shows...

I made it back down for a Lafayette Live visit last week. I wish I could give a little review, but the show I saw Saturday night at the Knickerbocker with The Melting Pot and The Heavy Company was so sick that I have a little memory loss. The Melting Pot, featuring members of Root Hog and Uncle Buck's Mojo Box, jammed Booker T & The MGs tunes and my boys in The Heavy Company's Midwest Psychedelia was thick and conducive to head bobbing. I may have been toe-tapping a shaking my backside a bit; truly a public outburst for myself. I apologize to anyone that may have witnessed this. :-)

Side note: The Heavy Company guitarist/vocalist Ian Daniel has a pretty sweet Lafayette Shows site up HERE.

On the IND side, we've been jamming more new tunes for the February shows. We'll be at the Animal House on 2/11/12 with The Mound Builders and at Aces Pub on 2/25/12 with Born Under Burden. For more details on these dates and to RSVP, check out the Fan Page. While you're there, consider hitting the 'like' button. :-)

Speaking of the Animal House show, it'll mark the first time in a long time that I'll be cranking my amp up in Frankfort. Jeremy Chambers, bassist for 50/6 Feet, has gotten involved with booking over there and is putting together some awesome shows. Jim Voelz, The Mound Builders' vocalist, and myself plan to sneak into town this Thursday night (2/5/12) to plug the show and jam some tunes at Applebees Open Mic Night. If you start digging for change now, TMB & IND CDs & shirts will be on hand.

Ok, 3 things before I go...

First, Emily Larimer (Chemcoma drummer/vocalist) released an awesome new track over on the Tempest Fare Facebook Page. Check it out!

Second, I'm still trying to move some of my unused gear HERE on Craigslist. If there's room on your credit card or your tax refund is burning a hole in your pocket, shoot my a reply on the listing.

Third, I finally figured out that #FF stands for 'Follow Friday' on Twitter. Yeah, I'm embarrassed. Anyway, if you're hip to Twitter and follow @ChrisJuneIND, I'll hook you up with a Friday mention.

That does it for this week, thanks for stopping in!

I'll see you Frankfort peeps on Thursday!!!

Happy MLK Day! Do you have the day off? Not me...

I met most of the Lafayette Music Scene last Monday night at the City Council meeting to speak out against the proposed entertainment ordinance. Good news: the ordinance was tabled! You can find more info HERE. Check out the chump in the bottom right corner of the picture. :-)

Drew & I jammed out some newer tunes (newer to the acoustic set, that is) Wednesday night at Lafayette Live. It was great to make new friends & have some dudes join us on the last song!

Here's the set:

"My Rx"
"Guilt that Keeps on Giving"
"No Second Chance" - Adrenaline cover
"Amputee" - Oceansize cover

I ended the music week by stopping by the Hoot Night show at the Lafayette Brewing Company. The Moundbuilders, Threat Level, and I-Exist threw it down!

Highlights included loud tube amps, lots of rocking, and adult drinks. Buddy from I-Exist is also a Rhodes Amplification artist and we spent some time chumming with Mr. Rhodes himself.

If you get a chance, ask Buddy why he was rocking a Tele that night. :-)

Coming up soon...

February 25th the IND crew will be joining forces with Born Under Burden at Aces Pub in Lafayette for a night of loud rock tune-age. RSVP/Show Info HERE.

Audiokult Radio will be rockin' Whistle When We Break Down in the near future.

Finally, I'm selling some gear that I haven't been using. If you need some new toys, are looking for a screaming deal, or would like to contribute to the student loan fund, I have the stuff listed HERE.

That's does it for the weekly update. Thanks for stopping by!

06/28/11

Get ready for a novel, it was Monday the 27th when I started typing this...

Wow, I thought last week was crazy, but today has been nuts!

Last Wednesday I made my open mic debut playing IND material. The short set consisted of "Before it gets to me," "Pocket & Soul," & "Settling." It was a good start for me & a lot of fun. Thanks to Brady for squeezing me in & for running Lafayette Live Open Mic at the Theater. It's an awesome way for musicians to test out new material & get some exposure. If you're free this Wednesday night (6/29) at 9pm, I'll be playing again. I'm planning on busting out a new track: "Out of our Hands." Extra details are on my Shows page.

Yesterday I wrapped guitars for the new EP I'm working on. I haven't decided on a title yet, but today I've been jokingly referring to it as '5'7 & Hell on Wheels.' Yeah, that's probably not going to happen. Maybe one of you has a better or maybe funnier suggestion. Anyway, I have 2 more songs to get bass done on before moving onto vocals & drum stuff.

I finally got around to doing a formal Facebook fan page. As always, if you're digging what I'm doing and/or are down with the cause, please 'like it.' All of the content on there is the same as www.chrisjuneind.com, but it'll give me a little more web presence. Plus, I signed up for a Sound Cloud account to get things moving. That should allow me to post more demos, live stuff, and other goodies.

Before I forget, thanks to everyone that made my Saturday awesome. My main man Scott Freeman had me over for a cookout that had a lot of Fiddlers' Gathering performers around. I rubbed elbows with some of them before having to bail early to go catch my little brother's first show singing with Thor. Joey does the cookie monster bit better than most guys I've seen in town. Don't let him know yet, I don't want him to get a big head. After all, Tim Brouk did give him a shout out in the Journal & Courier. Here's a link to the article. Great job at the show guys & thanks Tim! After the Thor show, I headed down to see my buddies in Born Under Burden catch fire at LafayetteMetal.com's HardnHeavy Showcase. This was B.U.B.'s cd release show. Please go check out their music, buy it, & watch them live. Trust me, they are worth your time. :-)

That's all for now. I'll be spending the rest of the week recording, giving guitar lessons, getting more ink & meeting up with some dudes that have hit me up to play my music loud.

Thanks for stopping in again. Have a safe & awesome 4th. Try not to blow any limbs off. If you think about it, light a few bombs off for my little brother Jordan. He's over in Afghanistan until December. I'm sure he and his USMC crew will appreciate it.

Over and out.
